About Us
The people and our farm

Who are we?
Dan and Sonya both grew up on livestock properties so breeding and raising stock has always been where our passion lies. After completing University degrees in agriculture we began working in a variety of agricultural jobs until we were lucky enough to buy "Newbury" in 2010. It has been home since Christmas that year and is a wonderful place to raise our family.
Our Farm
"Newbury" is located just outside the beautiful village of Millthorpe in the Central Tablelands of NSW. We have reliable rainfall (usually) and fertile soils, with good quality pastures that have been maintained and improved since we bought the farm. We have embarked on an extensive tree planting programme and grow mostly natives to encourage birds and small wildlife - although there are ornamental deciduous species planted in some areas. We find it very rewarding to see our stock sheltering under trees that didn't exist when we moved here.
"Newbury" is a medium sized farm which is focussed on breeding Wiltipoll sheep and black Angus cattle - plus maintaining the usual menagerie of horses, guard alpacas, chooks and dogs.
Our Farming Philosophy
We consider ourselves to be ethical and compassionate producers who are concerned about the welfare and health of our animals. We have an active vaccination and drenching programme to ensure our sheep stay healthy throughout their lives. We do not use any growth or reproduction hormones, nor do we use feed additives. In drier times we supplement reduced grazing with hay and grain grown on the farm, or high protein pellets.
Our Sheep
In 2017 we decided we needed to diversify from just cattle and selected Wiltipolls as a hardy, low maintenance breed that was well suited to the cooler wet climate of the tablelands. The first lambs were born later that year.
We use rams sourced from various studs to constantly improve our genetics. Our aim is to produce quiet, large framed, hardy and fast maturing animals. We select our ewes to further improve the flock with a focus on clean shedding, sizeable frame, fast growth, good black feet, black noses and good milk production.
